Norwich City cult hero Adam Drury will hit the big 300 appearance mark on Saturday if he manages to put his studs into the Edgeley Park turf at Stockport this weekend.
Drury was signed by Nigel Worthington from Peterborough in 2001. £500,000 seemed like a lot at the time, but it turned out to be an extremely shrewd piece of business from Big Nige. Drury played an integral part of Worthy's team which reached the play-final in 2002, the next season Drury won the player of the season, and soon became widely know as 'the best left-back outside the Premiership'. Drury was installed as captain and lifted the Division 1 title in his first year as captain, a season where Drury was superb, forming the defensive base for Darren Huckerby on the left hand side. Which was the base for Norwich's stunning season.
Although Norwich's Premiership campaign ended in disappointment. Drury did score one of Norwich's most famous ever goals, a last minute equaliser at home to Middlesborough, Norwich having been 4-1 down with 10 minutes remaining.
Drury was becoming part of the furniture at Carrow Road, and a few season later when Glen 'maths teacher' Roeder took over. Drury fell out of favour and his absence was almost eerie. A series of potentially career ruining injuries threatened Drury's Norwich life, and it looked as if his time might be up.
But since Paul Lambert's arrival, Adam Drury has been ever-present this season and is starting to look the player of a few season ago. Drury is currently in his ninth season and is Norwich's current longest serving player.
