Going Down Could be a Blessing

8 months have passed since my beloved Norwich City dropped out of the Championship with a whimper at Charlton. We had a team of overrated has-beens and loanees who cared more about their pay cheques than Norwich City. The future looked extremely grim for the Canaries.

An open day 7-1 home hammering against Colchester did not bode well for the season, and many (me included) seriously feared for the future of our team in yellow and green. But five months is obviously a long time in football. Our 'if you cant beat em hire em' attitude paid off and Paul Lambert has got us playing brilliantly and we sit proudly atop League One.

This has forced me to think maybe relegation was the best thing that happened to the club. We have had a complete clear out, from board to ball boys, everything was changed.

When Scott Vernon hit the Carrow Road net to make it 7 yes S E V E N, we hit rock bottom and the only way was up. We had nothing more we could possibly lose. Out went Brian Gunn (who is still a legend) and in came a young, hungry, tactically aware gaffer. The has-beens and loanees have been replaced with keen, hungry players, who are willing to do die for the Norwich cause. The relegation has also allowed home grown talent such as Smith, Adayemi, Spillane, Rudd, Daley and Francombe to force their way into the first team.

The change has worked wonders, Carrow Road is a fortress once again, the one touch passing has returned, and everything looks well down by the River Wensum.

IF(and I emphasise that IF) we do get back to the Championship, we will be better equipped for a survival fight with this current team. Hoolahan, Martin and Smith should flourish, and we can hopefully replicate the likes of Nottingham Forest and Leicester City and really compete. OTBC..
